MEETING
TOPIC:
Environmental
Sustainability: Categorizing Risk from Fire
Suppression Products on the Local Environment
Water providers
have dealt with the conflicting goals of fire
protection and water quality in their distribution
and storage systems since the beginning, but what
about the act of firefighting itself? Many aquifers
on the Cape and SE Mass have relatively shallow,
porous overburden leaving them vulnerable to
contamination under a number of scenarios including
fire response. VIPER is designed to include the
critical but until now absent source protection
element into incident response by associating street
addresses with aquifer protection and incorporating
this into the incident response. This topic has
generated significant interest and is guaranteed to
get you thinking.
