Skilled Water Distribution Mechanic
The Town of Hanover DPW has a position available for a full-time skilled water distribution mechanic in the Water Operation Group. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement, and a class 1B hoisting engineer’s license, a minimum Grade IID or IIC Drinking Water Supply Operators Certification, and a Cross Connection Inspector and Surveyor Certificate. The pay scale is $24.75 to $26.77 per hour and a license stipend of $1.63 per hour for a combination of Grade II and backflow licenses. Candidates with a Grade ID license may be considered at a lower pay rate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the skilled operation and maintenance of water distribution equipment, assets, and vehicles including water mains, valves, and hydrants, the installation and testing of water meters, the testing of backflow prevention devices, the performance of leak detection activities, and related work.
The position requires physical work inside and outside in all weather conditions. There are significant opportunities for overtime. Active participation in the Town’s snow and ice control activities as well as after-hours system flushing, emergency repairs to Town of Hanover assets, and participation in the water distribution emergency standby program are essential requirements of this position.
If selected for the position, the candidate shall undergo a pre-employment physical which shall include screening for drugs and alcohol and shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing once hired.
This is a 40 hour per week position with opportunities for overtime. The schedule will be Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
