Water Systems to Improve Preparedness, as EPA Deadlines Approach

America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 required that community water systems serving more than 3,300 persons do the following:
* Conduct Risk and Resilience Assessments, by deadlines according to system size.
* Update the water system’s existing Water System Emergency Response Plans within 6 months of the RRAs
* Submit certifications to USEPA by specified deadlines
* Review and revised the RRAs and ERPs every 5 years.

RRAs must be certified to USEPA by 3/31/2020 for water systems serving 100,000 or more, by 12/31/2020 for systems serving 50,000 to 99,999, and by 6/30/2021 for systems serving 3301 to 49,999 persons. Dates for ERP certifications are 6 months later, respectively.
