Senate Bill 456, An Act to Assure Safe Drinking Water at Schools and Early Childhood Education Programs

Currently in Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Senate Bill 456 proposes a mandate for water suppliers to fully replace lead service lines at every school district, charter school, nonpublic school, and early childhood program that they serve within 3 years of becoming law. This would be first-time mandate for water suppliers to replace the portion of water services that they do not own. It would place undue costs and liability on the public water system. PCWWA is working together with the Massachusetts Water Works Association to amend this bill and its sister bill in the House of Representatives (HB2915). Both bills are widely co-sponsored by state congressmen. Email thomas.sexton@gza.com for further information on PCWWA position.
